I was first introduced to Kate Harris’ work when I read her novel “The Last Runaway” back in 2014. Since then, she has written two more books in the series – “The Land of Lost Borders” and “The Last Runaways”.
I have been following her blog since 2015 and have loved reading about her experiences in writing and publishing her novels. She has shared some great insights on how to get published and what it takes to write a good story. Her latest book, “Lands of Lost Borders”, is set in the same world as her previous works.
Kate Harris grew up in England where she spent her childhood exploring the countryside around her home. When she was 14 years old, she moved to Canada to attend university. After graduating, she worked as a teacher before deciding to pursue a career in writing full time. She now lives in London with her husband and son.
In her own words, Kate says, “My books are inspired by my love of history, mythology, and travel. My characters are often outsiders who find themselves caught between worlds.”
Her books are historical fiction, but they are not based on any particular period or place. Instead, they are loosely based on myths and legends from different cultures across the globe. In “The Land of lost Borders”, the story follows the adventures of three young women who escape their captors and embark on a journey across Europe. Their goal is to reach the land of the fae, where they hope to find freedom.
This is a story of adventure, romance, and magic. It is told from the perspective of three young women who are forced to leave behind everything familiar to them. As they struggle to survive, they learn valuable lessons along the way.
The book starts out with the three girls being held captive by a group of men who are trying to capture them. They are taken away from their homes and families and placed in a small room where they are kept under constant surveillance.
They are given little food and water and are treated badly. Eventually, they manage to escape and make their way to a nearby town. There, they meet a man named John who helps them to get to the nearest border crossing.
He promises to help them cross over the border if they agree to go with him. Once they arrive at the border, he tells them that he cannot take them across the border without paying a hefty fee. However, he offers to let them stay with him until they can figure something else out.
After spending a few days with John, the girls decide to try to find someone who can help them cross the border. Unfortunately, no one seems willing to help them. One day, while they are walking down the road, they encounter a group of soldiers who tell them that they need to pay a toll to cross the border. They refuse to do so and run off.
As they continue their journey, they come upon a village where they are welcomed warmly. They spend several weeks there before they decide to head towards the sea. Along the way, they meet a woman named Mary who agrees to help them cross the border free of charge. They eventually reach the coast and start making plans to cross the border.
While they wait for the right opportunity to cross the border, they live peacefully among the villagers. They enjoy the simple pleasures of life and spend their days fishing and swimming in the ocean. While they are enjoying themselves, they hear news that the king is looking for them. He wants to know where they went and why they left. They realize that they need to escape before he finds them.
They decide to head north and follow the river. They soon come across a castle where they are captured again. They are brought to the castle and locked inside a dungeon. They are given nothing to eat or drink and are constantly watched. They eventually escape and make their way back to the village.
Once they return to the village, they are greeted warmly. They are offered shelter and food and are even allowed to join the local church service. They spend several months here before they decide to venture further north. They eventually reach the city of York and are able to cross the border. Once they reach the border, they are reunited with John. He gives them money and sends them on their way.
